Jan 20th Article about Madeira Beach Youth Baseball and Softball from the Beach Beacon.

"Children’s baseball took a giant step forward in the city, as a partnership was formed between the city and the Babe Ruth League. The two had formerly run separate programs and had sometimes been at odds.

“We’re teaming up to provide a quality product and a quality program, and both parties come out ahead,” Crawford said at the city commission meeting.

City Recreation Director Doug Andrews said the new combined league, called the Madeira Beach Youth Baseball and Softball Association, would get rid of the politics “and concentrate on teaching the kids how to play ball.” “It’s going to be awesome,” he said. “This will be our own team, with our own uniforms saying ‘Madeira Beach.’”

Darren McClellan, vice president of the new league, said the new partnership “has had nothing but positive reactions.”

The new league will draw not only from the beaches, as before, but membership will be opened to all kids in Pinellas County."
